Kestrels - A Ghost History

PRE-ORDER: Kestrels - A Ghost History (LP/CD/Digital)

Finally, finally, finally: A Ghost History by Kestrels.

This one has been a long time coming and will be released on 5 June 2012 by Sonic Unyon. The LP version is a split label release with Noyes, hence the mention here. Working with Sonic Unyon has been a humbling experience, to say the least - they are one of the longest running and most influential labels in Canadian music history. I actually bought my first independent album from them when I was 14. I remember wondering how to pronounce the name of label (onion or union? - not totally dissimilar to the noise/no yes question I am frequently asked). To have one of our bands signed to their label is a massive deal to me. I'm also lucky enough to play in the band, so it's a monumental moment for me.

It's also a monumental moment for me because the album features a guest spot from my teenage hero, Tim Wheeler. Tim is the frontman of Ash, a Northern Irish band who started releasing records in 1993 (and still do to this day). I managed to get an imported copy of their debut EP when I was 13 years old and it fundamentally changed how I looked at music. As time passed, Tim and I became friends and he was happy to play on our record. I rented his Manhattan apartment while he was touring Japan in the summer of 2011 and finished writing and recording most of the vocals on the album at his place. I actually wrote and recorded all of the song "Lose" at his place the night before I moved home to Nova Scotia.

Check out more information on that connection at Exclaim.ca. They also have the tracklisting for the album and the tour dates so far.

Sonic Unyon have done a great job setting this up. See below for the three pre-order packages. All packages include an instant download of "The Light" (a different mix than the 2010 "Solipsist" version and a digital download emailed to you on the release date. The CD version will be shipped to you slightly before the release date. The LP version is something special - the first pressing is 500 copies on white vinyl. Each jacket is hand-numbered and the printed inner sleeve includes the complete lyrics to the album. The LP also includes a CD version of the album. Check below for a picture of the goods and for all ordering information.
